We recently contributed delivery of a website showcasing a well known drinks brand. Unfortunately due to budget restraints, the site was not backed in the marketing sense, so has stayed fairly dormant over the last few months.
Average hits for the site were around 500 per month (which is hardly anything). However over the past few weeks, traffic had shot up to around 70,000 per week, peaking at 20,000 users on one day only. This was down to someone posting on a money saving site about the free offer which was in place for the website. Cue 8,000 people ordering their free stuff, some over useage charges from the hosting company, and the fast realisation, that in this day and age, people will do anything for a freebie!
